The Development and Potential of Optoelectronic Sensors in China

Domestic photoelectric sensor manufactures still face certain technological bottlenecks in the research and production of high-end products. However, with the continuous investment of the country in high-tech industries and the improvement of independent research and development capabilities, this situation is expected to be improved.

The dvelopment status of optoelectronic sensors in China :

A photoelectric sensor is a device that converts light signals into electrical signals. Its working principle is based on the photoelectric effect. Optoelectronic sensors are not limited to light detection, but can also serve as detection elements for other sensors, directly used to detect non electric parameters.

The Chinese optoelectronic sensor industry started in the 1970s and has formed a certain industrial scale and technological level after years of development. At present, photoelectric sensors have shown great market potential in industrial automation, smart homes, intelligent transportation, medical and other fields, and their application scope is steadily expanding.

Market sizing and growth trend:

In recent years, the size of China photoelectric sensor market has continued to grow. According to data, the global optoelectronic sensor market size will reach 43.29 billion US dollars in 2022, with an average annual compound growth rate of 10.59%. In China, the market size of photoelectric sensors is also growing rapidly, with a market size of about 49.382 billion RMB in 2022. Although it has decreased compared to the previous year, the overall market demand remains high. It is expected that in the next few years, with the upgrading and development of downstream application fields, photoelectric sensors will develop towards intelligence, miniaturization, and multifunctionality, and the market sizing is expected to further expand.

Industrial chain and technological bottlenecks:

The upstream of the photoelectric sensor industry chain involves high-tech raw material fields such as silicon materials and integrated circuit materials, with high technological barriers. Domestic enterprises still face certain technological bottlenecks in the research and production of high-end products, as they rely on imports, resulting in lower market bargaining power and overall lower profit margins. However, with the continuous investment of the country in high-tech industries and the improvement of independent research and development capabilities, this situation is expected to be improved.

Policy support and future development trends:

National policies have played a positive role in promoting the development of the photoelectric sensor industry. For example, in the 14th Five Year Plan,a key manufacturing technology for smart sensors, was included in the list of cutting-edge technological breakthroughs, further promoting the development of photocell sensor technology. In the future, photoelectric sensors will continue to develop towards intelligence, miniaturization, and multifunctionality, and the downstream application areas will continue to expand, with broad prospects for industry development.
