The volume measurement system based on light curtains has small measurement errors and high accuracy, making it an economical and efficient solution, which is currently a common choice in the logistics sorting industry. Besides the light curtain , the laser scanner, Visual sensor are also popular devices to DWS system. 
At present, there are two types of civilian LiDARs: area array scanning and single line LiDAR.(G-TEK LSD,LND series laser scanner) Considering the application scenarios of volume measurement, measuring high-precision volume data requires sufficient density of point cloud data, as well as accurate point cloud data. Currently, the more mature solution is to use 2D lidar sensor + pan tilt/car for push scanning. This not only enables high-density point cloud data to be obtained, but also saves a significant portion of the workload in point cloud stitching.
The 3D visual sensor for area array photography can complete a full field shooting measurement in the field of view space within one frame of exposure time. Both dynamic and static measurements are applicable. In dynamic photography, higher belt speeds can be adapted by reducing exposure time, and the measurement process does not require speed values or uniform motion, resulting in better applicability.
