Free-flowing traffic vehicle measurement and classification

Sensor solutions for Vehicle measurement and classification in free-flowing traffic

In free-flowing traffic management, it's very important to accurately measure the length, width and height of vehicles. This is not only related to the traffic efficiency of the road, but also directly related to road safety. If the size of the vehicle exceeds the specified range, it may not only cause traffic congestion, but also cause traffic accidents, posing a serious threat to people's lives and property. Therefore, the development of an efficient and accurate vehicle length, width and height measurement system is of great significance to improving the level of traffic management and ensuring road safety.

Free-flowing vehicle dimension measurement system uses unique data algorithms to process the collected structural data and ultimately restore the dimensional features of the measured vehicle's exterior. This system has been widely used for vehicle volume detection in high-speed entrance, fixed overloading control stations, material yards, and parking lots.

Vehicle measurement system for single lane roads

Solutions:
(1) Single-lane with one granty frame
Set up a gantry at the entrance of the road, and install two laser lidar scanners (Here named 'Lidar A and Lidar B', for the detection of width and height of vehicle) and one laser lidar scanner (Here named 'Lidar C', for the detection of length and height of vehicle) on the gantry to collect the vehicle profile data. The scanning direction of 'Lidar A and Lidar B' is perpendicular to the direction of vehicle moves, and the scanning direction of the 'Lidar A' is parallel to the direction of vehicle moves.

(2) Single-lane road with two granty frames
Set up a simple gantry frame at the entrance of the road, and install two laser lidar scanners (Here named 'Lidar A and Lidar B') on both sides of the gantry.
Set up a second frame at 18-20m behind the first gantry, and install a laser lidar scanner (Here named 'Lidar C') on the center of the frame which is alo in the center of the lane. "
Lidar A and Lidar B will detect the width and height of a vehicle, and Lidar C will detect the length and height of a vehicle.

Vehicle measurement system for multi-lane roads

Solutions:
(1) Multi-lane road with two granty frames for free flow traffic (Take double-lane road for example)
Set a granty frame on the road, and install two lidar sensors on both sides of the frame (directly above the center of the lane).
Set a second granty frame 18-20m behind the first gantry, and install three lidar sensors on it.

(2) Multi-lane road with one granty frame for free flow traffic (Take double-lane road for example)
Set up a frame on the road, and install a lidar sensor on each outside of the lane line. Install two lidar sensors above the center of each lane, and then install another laser lidar in the center of the road. There are a total 5 lidars.
